You will: Establish processes and methodologies for localizing and optimizing overseas Steam games for the Chinese market and in charge of our hit games system optimization

Must have: Extensive senior game design experience, with a deep understanding of Chinese player habits. Strong familiarity with the Steam game ecosystem, having played at least 100 Steam games.

Yodo1 is looking for a Senior Game Designer (Chinese Mandarin speaking)

WHAT WE EXPECT

You will:

  1. Drive China-market culturalization for incoming PC and mobile games.
  • Evaluate global games (primarily Steam titles) and define the culturalization strategy required for China, including narrative adaptation, art/content compliance, theme and motif adjustments, and player-experience alignment with Chinese cultural expectations.
  • Produce clear culturalization design documents that outline required creative changes (e.g., story rewrites, VO adaptation plans, character replacements, UI/UX adjustments, content compliance actions) to support a successful China launch.
  • Collaborate with localization teams to ensure localization quality is not only linguistically correct but also contextually native to Chinese players.
  1. Optimize system design & monetization for China
  • Analyze the company’s key existing hit games and identify opportunities to improve engagement, retention, monetization, and live-ops resonance with China-market players.
  • Provide design recommendations and system-level direction to help global production teams implement China-appropriate mechanics (e.g., reward structures, economy tuning, pricing strategy, event design).
  • Act as the China-market design voice for global product teams, ensuring new features or systems are suitable for Chinese players’ habits and expectations.

You must have:

  • Fluency in Chinese Mandarin and English, the role requires a deep understanding of Chinese user behavior and long-term residency in China
  • Extensive experience a as Game Designer, at least 5 years in a senior position with a deep understanding of Chinese player habits.
  • Extensive experience in localization optimization and monetization design for both casual and mid-to-hardcore games.
  • Strong familiarity with the Steam game ecosystem, having played many types of Steam games
  • A track record of designing games that have achieved success globally or in China.
  • Excellent ability to produce game design documentation.
  • Management experience in leading game design teams, with excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.  

You might have:

  • An AI-oriented mindset, actively experimenting with various AI tools in your daily work.
  • Experience working with teams across different locations, cultures, and time zones.
